LA FIAT 500
Si la Nuova Fiat 500 de 1957 est pour les Italiens l’enfance de l’automobile, pour le reste du monde, cette grande petite voiture incarne l’Italie. Petit chef-d’œuvre de l’économie et de la simplification, la bambina est un vrai miracle industriel.
If for an Italian, the 1957 Nuova Fiat 500 represents the infancy of the automobile, for the rest of the world, the immense little car symbolises Italy. A miniature masterpiece of economy and simplification, the bambina is a true manufacturing miracle.
LA CHAISE RIETVELD
La Chaise Rouge et Bleue du Néerlandais Gerrit Rietveld construite en 1918 et peinte en 1923 a bouleversé le vocabulaire du mobilier et de l’architecture. Ce siège de pure création fut reconnu comme la transposition en volume des dogmes du mouvement De Stijl fondé par Piet Mondrian et Theo Van Doesburg.
The Red-Blue Chair, built in 1918 by Dutchman Gerrit Rietveld and painted by him in 1923, revolutionised the language of furniture design, as well as that of architecture. The chair, a piece of pure creativity, was recognised as the physical expression of the principles of the De Stijl movement, founded by Piet Mondrian and Theo Van Doesburg.
LA BRIQUE LEGO
La brique LEGO, née en 1949, est devenue le jouet incontournable. Son créateur, le Danois Ole Kirk Christiansen, a créé un concept révolutionnaire : des briques en plastique modulaires qui peuvent être emboîtées et verrouillées ensemble grâce à un ingénieux système de plots et de tubes cylindriques. Le nom LEGO est devenu synonyme de créativité, longévité, imagination illimitée...
LEGO bricks, born in 1949, have become a must-have toy. Their Danish creator, Ole Kirk Christiansen created a revolutionary concept – modular plastic bricks that can interlock thanks to an ingenious system of blocks and cylindrical tubes. The name LEGO has become synonymous with creativity, durability and unlimited imagination.
LA LAMPE ARCO
ARCO est un classique du luminaire, un objet incontournable du design contemporain. Son arc caractéristique, son socle en marbre blanc de Carrare et son globe en aluminium étincelant sont immédiatement identifiables. Sa ligne épurée évoque une clochette florale ou les rassurants réverbères sentinelles de la nuit urbaine.
ARCO is a lighting classic, an essential object of contemporary design. Its characteristic arch, its white Carrara marble base and its sparkling aluminium globe are immediately recognisable. Its clean lines are reminiscent of a bell-shaped flower or of a reassuring street light in an urban night.
LA TABLE COMPAS
La table « d'architecture » Jean Prouvé est un savant mélange de design, d'architecture et d'ingénierie. Avec le choix d'une structure en métal, de ces pieds béquilles et de ces formes triangulaires, Jean Prouvé utilise encore une fois son matériau de prédilection : la tôle pliée.
Jean Prouvé’s “architectural” table is a skilful blend of design, architecture and engineering. Using a metal structure, angled legs and triangular forms, Jean Prouvé once again turned to his favourite material – folded sheet metal.
LE VELOSOLEX
« Un moteur silencieux pour entendre les bruits de la campagne et le chant des oiseaux, une vitesse limitée à 30-35 km/h pour jouir du paysage et sentir la brise sur la peau (…), le fait d'aider le moteur évitant de vous ankyloser...» L'éloge du Solex par Jacques Sternberg confirme bien le capital sympathie que ce petit véhicule a su se forger depuis 1946.
“A silent engine so you can hear the sounds of the countryside and the birds singing, a top speed of 20 miles an hour so you can enjoy the scenery and feel the breeze on your skin (…), the act of pedalling the engine along to stop you going numb”: Jacques Sternberg’s tribute to the Velosolex evokes the immense appreciation the little vehicle has enjoyed since 1946.
